Book a facial about a week before a big event. Five to seven days gives any pinkness from extractions time to fade while your skin still looks fresh. If it will be your first facial ever, go earlier, two to four weeks ahead, so you know how your skin reacts before the date that matters.

Why not get a facial the day before?

A facial does real work on your skin, and skin sometimes needs a few days to settle afterward.

  • Extractions can leave pink marks. They usually fade within a day or two, but not always overnight.
  • Some skin breaks out a little afterward. A few small blemishes in the days after a facial are not unusual, especially after a first one or a long gap.
  • New products are an unknown. A reaction is uncommon, but the day before family photos is a bad time to find out.
  • Freshly exfoliated skin is more sensitive. It can react to makeup, sun or wind more than it normally would.

None of this is a problem on an ordinary Tuesday. It is only a problem when the next day is the one being photographed.

What does a good timeline look like?

A month or more out

If you have never had a facial, this is the time for a trial run. You find out how your skin responds with plenty of room to recover.

It is also the realistic starting point if your skin is congested or breaking out. One facial a week before an event freshens your skin. It cannot undo months of buildup. Skin renews itself roughly every four to six weeks, so real change takes at least one full cycle.

One week out

This is the main appointment. A full facial with exfoliation and extractions fits here, and your skin has time to calm down afterward.

Two to three days out

Only if you have had facials before and know your skin handles them well. Keep it gentle, tell Ashley about the event, and ask to go light on extractions or skip them.

The last few days

Nothing new. No new products, no at-home peel, no scrub you have not used before. Stick to what you know: a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen in the morning, and enough sleep and water.

Which facial should you book before an event?

The Deluxe Facial is the classic choice a week out: deep cleansing with steam, an enzyme peel, gentle extractions, massage and a custom mask.

The Express Facial is a shorter appointment with a cleanse, gentle exfoliation and a mask or treatment chosen for your skin that day. It suits a tight schedule, and it is the better choice if you are closer to the date than you meant to be.

If breakouts are your main concern, start earlier with the Acne Facial and give it several weeks. The guide on how often to get a facial explains the pacing.

What if a breakout shows up anyway?

Leave it alone. Squeezing turns a spot that would have lasted two days into a mark that lasts a week or more, and a scab is much harder to cover than a flat blemish.

Use a spot treatment you have used before, keep your hands off it, and let concealer do the rest on the day. If you get painful, deep breakouts regularly, that is worth a visit to a dermatologist, well ahead of any event.

How do you plan around the holidays?

December stacks events close together: work parties, family photos, Christmas gatherings, New Year’s Eve. Pick the one that matters most to you and count back a week from it.

Winter adds its own problem. Furnace heat and cold air leave skin dry and flaky, and makeup clings to every flake. A facial about a week ahead clears that dry surface layer, so foundation sits smoothly. Between now and then, the habits in keeping your skin from drying out in winter will help.

One practical note: Ashley is the only person at Spathetics, so there are only so many openings in the weeks before Christmas. If you know your date, book the appointment now and work backward from it.

If you are getting your brows waxed for the same event, the same rule applies. A few days ahead is better than the morning of.

A week out is the simple answer, and earlier is better if it is your first. You can see every facial with its current price, then book online for the date that works backward from your event.
